Chuang Tzu, Mystic, Moralist, and Social Reformer
Chuang Tzu (trans., H A Giles)
Herbert A Giles was Her Britannic Majesty's (Queen Victoria) consul at Tamsui, China in the 1880s. The main text is an early English translation of The Book of Chuang Tzu, attributed to Chuang Tzu. Of special note is the anglicizing of many Chinese descriptive names such as rendering the great fish of the dark Northern Ocean as "Leviathan". It also contains an interesting note by the renowned Oxford scholar Canon Moore (the Reverend Aubrey Moore). Though getting onto 140 years old (2024) it remains insightful and poetic.
